Match day 2024 has come and gone, and approximately 6000 medical students ended up unmatched, without a guaranteed residency spot. Below, Dr. Frey offers up some alternative options if medical students ultimately are unable to match even after the SOAP and scramble processes.

This article nicely points out that the experience of graduating medical still opens up a lot of doors, even if they aren’t in the clinical setting. From consulting to research to medical writing, unmatched medical school graduates still have many options. It’s still probably a safer career path to continue to find a residency spot, but it’s comforting to know that there are alternative options out there!
