This post unveils the new mission of the Darwinian Doctor blog: helping to accelerate your journey to financial independence.
Blogging as a hobby
Looking back on the last three years of blogging, I’ve treated this blog as a hobby. This means that I’ve enjoyed the blog as a creative outlet that I hoped was helpful to people. I had no expectations of the blog growing or ever becoming a real business. I was content to spread the message of “Intentional evolution, every day,” in my characteristic fashion of brutal honesty.
Hobbies are tough in times of stress
Maintaining a blog and posting regularly is tough when you’ve got competing interests and commitments. The last year’s been pretty challenging, to say the least. When I took over as chief of my department over a year ago, I had no idea the stresses that the Covid pandemic would bring to both my department and my hospital. I should probably write up my experience in a post, because it’s been pretty hellish managing the ebbs and flows of the surges.
It was so stressful that the late 2020 Covid surge, I considered letting the blog go. I withdrew from my posting schedule and tried to mentally de-prioritize the blog. But after an anxiety provoking couple of weeks, I had a realization.
I missed the writing, the posting, and the community that we’ve built. I realized that the Darwinian Doctor had become a part of my identity. It’s tough to let go of any part of your identity.
I also realized that I had a lot more to contribute to the world.
The tide turns
So in early 2021, I did exactly the opposite and redoubled my efforts with the blog. I reached out to other physician real estate bloggers and started the Physician Real Estate Investor Network. I went on some podcasts, had some notable media mentions, and the blog grew.
Do you want to join the PhREI Network party? Come on in, the water’s fine.
Fincon
Another turning point was Fincon 2021 in September. Fincon is “where money and media meet” and is an annual meeting for finance creators (bloggers, YouTubers, and podcasters). Although it was a fairly sedate conference due to the pandemic, I still found it incredibly useful.
The highlight of the trip was an inspiring talk from the White Coat Investor, Dr. Jim Dahle, who’s the blogger that almost single handedly launched the entire physician finance blogging niche.
At the conference, I started to see a future where the Darwinian Doctor blog is more than just a hobby. Now I’m starting to see a future for the blog that involves spreading a hopeful message of financial empowerment to people far and wide.
A new age of evolution
So I’m excited to announce some exciting events you can expect to see in the near future:
- A new look for the blog
- New social media projects (Please follow me on Tik Tok!)
- New educational opportunities (PhREI Network Con 2022?)
Some of these projects will take investment of money in addition to time, so you’ll probably start to notice new affiliate partnerships rolling out soon as well. Rest assured, I’ll only spark relationships with companies that I know, trust, and would use myself.
A new mission statement
All of these changes will support our new mission statement here at the Darwinian Doctor:
Helping to accelerate your journey to financial independence.
The Darwinian Doctor
Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed this update on our new mission here at the Darwinian Doctor blog. I know there are some readers that aren’t going to like the changes around here, and that’s totally fine. No hard feelings.
But through this time of evolution, I foresee a bigger and brighter future where this blog. Eventually, I hope to spread the message of financial empowerment to millions of people just like you.
There are many waypoints on the journey to FIRE, and I hope to help you no matter where you are along the path. From understanding the basics of income and expenses to advanced real estate investing tips, I can help!
I’m glad you’re here with me on this exciting journey.
Until next time,
— TDD
