While much of the nation suffers through the last dregs of winter, spring has already come to Los Angeles. The air is warming up, the trees are sprouting new leaves, and my blog continue to grow! Here’s the official blog update!
Blog update
I continue to find this blog a fantastic creative outlet. I find writing to be a soothing and meditative activity, like carpentry or gardening. It’s also creating a public ledger that keeps me accountable to my goals and plans for world domination.
Thankfully, it also seems to be finding a niche in the blog-o-sphere. The Darwinian Doctor blog continues to find readership at an ever increasing rate.
At my last update in October 2019, the blog had reached the milestone of 10,000 pageviews. It took about twelve whole months from the birth of the blog to reach this auspicious goal.
Today, I’m happy to report that this trend has not only continued, it’s accelerated. It’s only been 4 months since October, and we’ve already doubled our readership and hit 20,000 pageviews!
New blog mentions
While the majority of readers now find this blog via Google searches, I do get referrals from other blogs as well. I’m eternally grateful to these other (more widely read) blogs for sharing my posts. Each time one of my posts is mentioned, it creates a huge spike in visitors and more e-mail subscribers as well.
Here are a few key posts which were shared in the last few months:
- Xrayvsn shared Why the rich don’t feel rich in his Grand Rounds
- Physician on FIRE shared My why: family, friends, and freedom in The Sunday Best (1/26/2020)
- Personal Finance Blogs shared My son got a reading award! (But I couldn’t be there) in their December 19 features.
Competing priorities
As with all things, I’m constantly balancing writing with other priorities like my family and job as a surgeon. Things have become a bit unbalanced, however, since I started taking a real estate investing course in December.
The course is engaging and bursting with good tips. But I’d say the greatest takeaway so far has been the inspiration to dream big. Now instead of shooting for moFIRE within 15 years, I’m shooting for an even more ambitious SMART goal in 5 years:
I must have $150,000 of cash flow from real estate by 2025
Achieving this goal will give me the freedom to go part time at work. (Or at least decrease my 50-60 hours a week to something more manageable.)
The downside of all this aggressive goal setting is that I’ve been spending 1-2 hours a day researching and trying to buy rental properties. Just in the last 2 weeks, I’ve put out offers on 3 separate properties.
This doesn’t leave much time for blogging, unfortunately.
But my list of unwritten posts grows ever-longer, and I feel I have a lot more to contribute to the blog-o-sphere. So I’m going to rearrange a few things and make the time, dammit!
Conclusion
In summary, the blog is doing well and my real estate investing has accelerated dramatically.
March will be an exciting month as I head to the White Coat Investor conference in Las Vegas. I’ll surely have a lot to report from that event, and hopefully I’ll have some downtime to do some writing as well!
I’ve also got a ton of exciting things to report in my next installment of Anno Darwinii, which is my formal report on the growth of my real estate empire.
Until then!

Congratulations on the rapid growth. It shows that if you put the time in and put out good content you will reap the rewards. At this rate you are going to give the big names a run for their money.
Thanks so much Xrayvsn. I doubt I’ll give the “big names” any challenge unless I increase my posting frequency, but hey, you never know!
