Carpe Diem MD

This month, Dr. Ian Cook decided to open up his short term rental course to all comers for the rest of 2022. This is to celebrate the last year of 100% bonus depreciation. This is a special tax strategy. Combine with a short term rental business, this can yield significant tax savings, even for full time physicians. Unfortunately, 2022 is the last year of the full benefit. Next year it goes down to 80%, unless it’s renewed by the government.

You can access his short term rental course here, and read my review about it here.

This past week, I posted another episode of Anno Darwinii, which is a quarterly summary of my real estate portfolio. I reviewed the numbers, including the income and expenses from the portfolio. The gross income from the portfolio was about $325k over the last year. But as I’ve highlighted before, gross income is not the same as money in your pocket, or net income.

The Prudent Plastic Surgeon

In this great post, Jordan Frey describes his experience on the “Docs Outside the Box” podcast with Dr. Nii Darko. He frames the conversation around the question: is there such a thing as a poor physician?

It’s something I’ve considered a lot recently, especially after creating a video highlighting the surprising fact that some pediatricians make less than $150k in our country.

For the answer to this question, read the full post on the Prudent Plastic Surgeon blog here: Is There Such a Thing as a Poor Physician?
