Dr. Frey can be pretty critical of his level of financial education before he became an attending. Truth be told, I think it’s pretty rare for medical students and residents to have much financial sense at all. (I certainly didn’t.) There’s something about medical training that is just so all-consuming that it’s hard to have much mental energy to expend on investing and financial planning.
But Dr. Frey does give himself credit for a few things: living on a budget, thinking about future goals, and actually starting his financial education.
